Socialist deputy Esteban Paulón requested the interpellation of Foreign Minister Pablo Kirno to explain Argentina's position regarding the United States' decision to detain Nicolás Maduro and on the efforts to secure the release of gendarme Nahuel Gallo, "illegally detained" in Venezuela. The socialist deputy, who is part of the Provincias Unidas bloc, presented his request through a resolution project where he asks Kirno to provide explanations in the session hall of the Chamber of Deputies, according to the text accessed by the Argentine News Agency (NA). In the project's justification, Paulón asks for the legal and political grounds of the Argentine Foreign Ministry's official statement to be explained, through which the national government "expressed its support for the military actions carried out by the United States of America on Venezuelan territory, in light of the principles of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the historical tradition of Argentine foreign policy." He also asks for an evaluation by the government "of the risks that military actions, external interference, and precedents of foreign administration or control over sovereign states, as well as the invocation of security doctrines, the fight against drug trafficking or so-called 'narco-terrorism' as a justification for the unilateral use of force, may imply for regional peace, the sovereignty of Latin American states, and the protection of human rights." Paulón demanded that the government inform about the diplomatic, consular, and political actions carried out by the National Executive Branch to achieve "the immediate release of the Argentine citizen Nahuel Gallo, a member of the National Gendarmerie, illegally detained in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela since 2024, as well as the actions planned to guarantee his physical integrity and respect for his fundamental rights and guarantees".
